What: A two-part writing assignment intended to focus and condense information aimed at different audiences.
Why:
To hone on in a key message for your client
To select the most relevant material from a wider pool of information
To write clearly, concisely and correctly
To learn the basics of AP Style
To understand and apply different approaches for different audiences
What to do:
Decide on a key message for your client that will guide your work throughout the quarter. Its fine if its the key message you discussed with your peers in lab.
oNote: You may not contact the client for this assignment. If you feel you have an exceptional need, please let your instructor know before making contact and well assess your situation.
Drawing upon your deep research, build upon that key message by honing in on a particular program or other aspect of your clients services that really exemplifies that key message. If your client has asked you to focus on a particular program or service, you should use that.
Identify two external audiences for that message. An example of an audience might be parents, educators, potential employees, donors etc. They will likely be those outlined in your Research Assignment, though you are certainly free to change them for this assignment if youve reconsidered.
Using the provided template, write about the clients program or service in a way that both underscores your key message and is aimed at educating and informing each audience. It should look like this:
o250-words intended to educate and/or inform one identified audience about the program/service.
o250-words intended to educate and/or inform the other identified audience about the program/service.
Given your knowledge of your clients audience and its current communication channels, identify an outlet where this text could appear. Examples might be a brochure, their website, a newsletter or an annual report. Include a brief explanation of why you chose that outlet.
Apply the basics of APA Style to your writing.
